Question A Day in Bruges or Antwerp: Which to Choose?

Hello! My husband and I (late 40's) will be on a tulips and windmills Viking cruise in April with a free day to explore either Bruges or Antwerp. We love history, architecture, and good food. Bruges seems like a fairy-tale town with its canals and medieval buildings, while Antwerp has a vibrant art scene and diamond district. For those who've been to both, which city would you recommend for a day trip? We're torn and would appreciate any insights to help us decide!
