I'm planning on taking the train from Zagreb to Budapest, and it's about a 6-hour trip on the most direct train that runs late (4-11pm). I'm considering breaking up the journey with an overnight stop but not sure where would be the best place to stay. Any suggestions for charming towns or cities along the route? Also, what are some must-see spots or local cuisine I should check out during my stop? Appreciate any tips you can share!

For a charming overnight stop between Zagreb and Budapest, I recommend Pecs. It's a delightful city known for its rich history and vibrant culture. You can explore the early Christian Necropolis, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and enjoy the beautiful Zsolnay Cultural Quarter. Make sure to try some local dishes like 'pogácsa' (savory scones) and 'gulyás' (goulash). Another option could be Szekszárd, which is famous for its wine. Both places offer a good mix of relaxation and cultural experiences that would enhance your journey. Safe travels!

Both Pecs and Szekszárd sound like fantastic choices! If you're open to other options, I’d suggest stopping in Szentendre. It’s a picturesque town with cobblestone streets, art galleries, and a lovely riverside view. Plus, you can indulge in delicious Hungarian pastries like 'rétes' (strudel) while soaking in the local art scene. How long do you plan to stay at your stop? That might help narrow down the best activities to fit in!
