We prefer to travel in the shoulder season without the restrictions that come with booking accommodations in advance. It gives us flexibility, but I'm starting to wonder if we're missing out on better deals or even availability by not booking ahead. Does anyone else travel this way? How do you balance the desire for flexibility with the need to secure a good place to stay? Especially in popular destinations, it feels like a gamble. Would love to hear how others handle this.

Traveling without booking accommodations in advance definitely offers flexibility, especially in the shoulder season when crowds are thinner. However, in popular destinations, it can be a gamble. One strategy I've found helpful is to book a refundable room for the first few nights, then explore options once you're there. This way, you secure a base while keeping some flexibility. How do you usually decide where to stay when you arrive?
