Hello! My wife and I will be spending approximately 72 hours in Munich and are considering a half-day trip to King Ludwig's castles. We’ve heard so much about Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau and are wondering how to best make this trip happen. What’s the best way to get there? Are there guided tours you’d recommend, or should we go on our own? Also, how much time should we allocate for visiting both castles? Any tips would be immensely helpful!

That sounds like an amazing trip! Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau are both stunning. If you’re short on time, I’d recommend taking a guided tour; it simplifies transportation and maximizes your time at the castles. Most tours usually allocate around 4-5 hours for visiting both, which is typically enough to soak in the beauty and history. If you decide to go on your own, the train from Munich to Füssen is scenic, but be sure to check the bus schedules to reach the castles from there. Don’t forget to explore the surrounding areas for picturesque views! Have you thought about what time you'd like to visit the castles?

I recommend starting your day early, especially if you're going on your own. The train from Munich to Füssen takes about 2 hours, and you’ll want to catch a bus to the castles once you're there. If time allows, consider visiting the Marienbrücke bridge for stunning views of Neuschwanstein. Allocating around 1.5–2 hours for each castle should give you a comfortable experience. Have you looked into purchasing tickets in advance? This can save you a lot of time waiting in line.

Starting early is definitely a good idea! The views from the Marienbrücke are breathtaking, especially in the morning light. If you’re visiting in peak season, purchasing tickets in advance is a must to avoid long lines. Have you thought about packing a little picnic to enjoy in the gardens or nearby? It could make your day even more special! Also, are there any specific spots around the castles you’re excited to see?
