Advice Driving from Danilovgrad to Mostar via Niksic and Trebinje

We're planning a road trip that includes driving from Danilovgrad, Montenegro to Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, passing through Niksic and Trebinje. Has anyone done this route before? We're curious about the road conditions, any must-see stops along the way, and how border crossings are handled between Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
