My wife and I will be walking the Camino de Santiago (Frances) in May - June 2025. After the walk, we're thinking of spending some time exploring Northern Spain in July, but we won't have a car. We're curious about the best places to visit that are accessible by public transport or on foot. We're interested in cultural sites, good food, and scenic spots. Has anyone done Northern Spain without a car? Any tips on must-visit places or how to get around efficiently?
Northern Spain is fantastic even without a car! After your Camino, consider visiting Bilbao for its Guggenheim Museum and vibrant food scene. San Sebastián is another gem, famous for its beaches and pintxos. Both cities are well-connected by train and bus. For scenic spots, don’t miss Picos de Europa—some areas are accessible by bus, and there are great hiking trails. Have you thought about adding Oviedo or Gijón to your itinerary? They’re charming and easy to explore on foot.
