Hello Rick Steves hive mind! I'm starting to gather options for Morocco in 2025, and I'm curious about taking the ferry from Tangier to Gibraltar. Is it a smooth ride, and how long does it typically take? What can I expect on the ferry? Also, any tips for exploring Gibraltar after I arrive would be helpful. Looking forward to hearing your experiences!

Taking the ferry from Tangier to Gibraltar is definitely worth it! The ride usually takes around 1.5 to 2 hours and is generally smooth, offering some stunning coastal views. Onboard, you can expect decent amenities, and sometimes even a bit of entertainment! Once you arrive, don't miss the iconic Rock of Gibraltar—hiking or taking the cable car up is a must for the views. Also, exploring the St. Michael's Cave and the Great Siege Tunnels adds a nice touch of history to your visit. What else are you hoping to do while you’re in Morocco?

The ferry ride sounds like a fantastic way to transition between two vibrant cultures! Besides the iconic sites you mentioned, I recommend checking out the local cuisine in Gibraltar—fish and chips are a must-try! Also, if you have time, consider visiting the Barbary macaques. They’re quite a sight! Do you have any particular experiences in Morocco that you're looking forward to? 🌍
