Question Gothenburg over Stockholm - am I off base?

We'll be visiting Scandinavia for the first time in mid-October 2025. We will have 7 days on the ground and are trying to decide between spending more time in Gothenburg or Stockholm. I've heard Gothenburg is more laid-back and has a great food scene, but Stockholm seems to have more iconic sights. For those who've been to both, which city would you recommend for a first-time visitor looking for a mix of culture, history, and good eats? Also, how's the weather in mid-October?
