Review Hotel Matelote in Antwerp - Overrated?

Just got back from Antwerp and stayed at Hotel Matelote, which was recommended in a Belgium travel guide. Honestly, it was a bit of a letdown for us. The hotel itself is okay, but it didn't live up to the hype. The rooms were smaller than expected, and the service was just average. Has anyone else stayed here and felt the same way? Or did we just catch them on a bad week? Curious to hear if others had a better experience.

It's always disappointing when a highly recommended spot doesn't meet expectations. I haven't stayed at Hotel Matelote myself, but I've heard mixed reviews. Some travelers rave about its boutique charm, while others, like you, find it underwhelming. Maybe it's a case of overhype? For your next trip, have you considered trying smaller, lesser-known boutique hotels? They often offer unique experiences without the inflated expectations. What do you usually look for in a hotel when you travel?
