Question Is a Day Trip to Sofia Worth It?

I just got my confirmation for the Bulgaria in 12 Days tour happening early September 2022. I'm debating whether to squeeze in a day trip to Sofia. Has anyone done this? What are the must-see spots if I only have a day? I'm particularly interested in historical sites and local food experiences. Any tips on making the most out of a short visit would be awesome!
