Question Student Visa Overstay Concerns in Italy

My son is currently in Italy on a Student Visa Type C, which is valid for 90 days. We're planning to visit him during his stay, but I'm a bit worried about the implications if he overstays his visa, even by a few days. Does anyone have experience or knowledge about the consequences of overstaying a student visa in Italy? Are there any exceptions or leniencies for short overstays, or should we strictly adhere to the 90-day limit? Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.
