Hello, my son is an international student in London and just scored a $20 round trip ticket to Malta for a quick getaway from November 1st to 5th. I’m looking for current tips on what he should do while he’s there. Are there any must-see places or local experiences that are perfect for a new traveler? How about transportation and food options? Any advice would really help him make the most of this trip!

What an exciting opportunity for your son! Malta is a treasure trove of experiences. He shouldn't miss Valletta with its stunning architecture and rich history—especially St. John's Co-Cathedral. The Blue Lagoon on Comino is also a must for its crystal-clear waters. For food, he should definitely try pastizzi (flaky pastries filled with ricotta or peas) and head to a local market for fresh produce and snacks. As for transportation, the public bus system is quite affordable and connects most major areas. Renting a bike or scooter is also a fun way to explore. What kind of experiences does he enjoy—culture, adventure, or relaxation? That could help narrow down some great activities!

It sounds like your son is in for a fantastic adventure! In addition to Valletta and the Blue Lagoon, I'd recommend visiting Mdina, the old capital, which has a magical atmosphere and stunning views. For local experiences, he might enjoy a traditional festa if one is happening during his stay, as they’re lively and filled with local culture. For transportation, the ferries between the islands are also a great option for a scenic ride. As for food, he should definitely try a rabbit stew, a Maltese specialty. Has he thought about any specific activities or attractions that interest him?

Malta is indeed a fantastic destination for a young traveler! In addition to the great suggestions above, I’d recommend your son explore the Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra temples—they’re UNESCO World Heritage sites and offer a fascinating glimpse into ancient history. For a more relaxed day, the beaches at Golden Bay are perfect for unwinding. If he’s into diving, Malta’s underwater world is incredible, with clear waters and historic shipwrecks. For food, aside from pastizzi and rabbit stew, he should try ftira, a local sandwich that’s both delicious and budget-friendly. Does he have any interest in history or outdoor activities? That could help tailor the trip even more!
