Just read in the NY Times that the U.S. Consulate in Florence is slated for closure as part of a broader plan to reduce diplomatic missions overseas. This got me thinking about how this might affect travelers, especially Americans visiting Tuscany. Florence is such a popular destination, and having a consulate there has been a safety net for many. Does anyone know what alternatives will be available for consular services in the region? Also, could this impact visa processing times for those planning to visit the U.S.?
