I'm going to Krakow in May and have planned a visit to Auschwitz. I know it's an important historical site, but I'm unsure about the best way to approach the visit. Should I book a guided tour, or is it better to explore on my own? Also, what should I expect in terms of emotional impact? Any tips on what to wear or bring would be really helpful too. Thanks for any insights!

Visiting Auschwitz is a deeply moving experience, and it's great that you're preparing thoughtfully. A guided tour is highly recommended—it provides valuable historical context and ensures you don't miss key details. Emotionally, it can be heavy, so take your time and allow yourself moments to reflect. Dress comfortably and respectfully, as you'll be walking a lot. Bring water and snacks, but avoid eating inside the memorial areas. Lastly, consider journaling or discussing your experience afterward to process your thoughts. How are you feeling about the visit?
