We're currently on our second visit to Patagonia, which remains one of our favorite destinations. Several folks have mentioned making a trip to Valparaiso, a place not included in the Tauck tour itinerary. Having never researched it much before, and missing it during our previous visit to Santiago, we decided to explore it yesterday. The journey took about 1.5 to 2 hours, but it was worth every minute. Valparaiso is perched high on several hillsides, with houses packed tightly together in various states of repair. The vibrant colors of the homes and the abundance of murals make it unlike any historic town I've visited. It's a must-see if you're in Patagonia, and I'm puzzled as to why it's not a standard stop on tours like Tauck's. Has anyone else visited Valparaiso and wondered the same?
