My husband and I are planning a DIY tour of Baltic and Scandinavian capitals from late August through early September. We're considering taking the ferry from Helsinki to Tallinn as part of our journey. Has anyone done this trip before? I'm curious about the best time to book tickets, which ferry company to choose, and any tips for making the most of the crossing. Also, is it worth spending a night in Tallinn, or is a day trip sufficient? Would love to hear your experiences and advice!

Taking the ferry from Helsinki to Tallinn is a fantastic idea! For the best experience, I’d recommend booking your tickets in advance, especially since late August to early September is still peak travel season. Companies like Tallink and Viking Line are popular choices, offering comfortable rides with great amenities. As for timing, an early morning departure gives you a full day in Tallinn, but spending a night there lets you experience the city’s magical medieval charm after the day-trippers leave. Trust me, it’s worth it! Have you thought about exploring Tallinn’s Old Town in the evening? It’s truly enchanting.
