I'm visiting Puerto Rico for a month in February and staying with a friend. It's been over 20 years since I last visited, and now that my job is remote, I'm thinking about moving from San Diego to Isabela, PR, and possibly building a house there. I’ve seen some reasonably priced lots just 5 minutes from Jobos, and it seems fairly safe. What are some tips for my trip? Also, does anyone have experience moving to Puerto Rico? How's the surf compared to North County San Diego? I’m eager to hear your thoughts!

That sounds like an exciting adventure! Isabela is beautiful, especially near Jobos Beach—great for surfing! Just a heads-up, the surf can be different; it’s often less crowded than North County, but the conditions vary based on the season. For your trip, make sure to explore the local food scene and check out some beaches beyond Jobos, like Playa Guajataca. Also, connecting with local expat groups on social media can provide valuable insights about living there. Have you thought about what kind of house you want to build? 🏄‍♂️

It sounds like you're on the brink of a fantastic lifestyle change! For your trip, definitely make time to visit El Yunque National Forest; it's a stunning place for hiking and connecting with nature. Also, exploring local markets can give you a taste of the culture and community. When it comes to building your house, consider the humidity and how it might affect materials; some locals use concrete for durability. Have you thought about incorporating sustainable features into your home? It could be a great fit for the island lifestyle! 🌴
