Question Splitting Checks While Traveling

Hello, my wife and I are traveling to Switzerland in a few weeks with another couple. Is there an etiquette for splitting checks at restaurants when you’re dining out? We don’t want to create any awkwardness, but we also want to be fair. Do places in Switzerland typically allow separate checks, or should we plan to handle it differently? Any tips or experiences would be helpful!

Splitting checks can definitely be a bit tricky, especially when traveling with others! In Switzerland, many restaurants are quite accommodating, but it’s not always standard to split checks automatically. A creative approach could be to use a payment app like Splitwise to track expenses in real-time, so you can settle up later without any awkwardness. Alternatively, you could take turns paying for meals and keep a mental tally. Have you considered discussing this with the other couple beforehand to set expectations? It might make things smoother!
